This Summer & into the Fall…

20 weeks… 120 families per week… That adds up to around 2,400 families served from May through August with our Fresh & Frozen weekly food distribution. We have 90 families in the Bite2Go program between three schools and we provided weekend food for those 90 families throughout the entire summer. Just as I was about to click the ‘publish’ button for this blog post sharing that tomorrow is our final food distribution, I received word from 2nd Harvest that they were approved for more funding and therefore our weekly food distribution gets to continue into the fall! Many families last week shared about how amazing this has been for them and how sad they were that it was ending… I am extremely excited to be able to share with the good news.

For a variety of reasons, West Valley School District has had to make school all online for the fall. With school being 100% virtual, Millwood Impact is working alongside the school and figuring out the best plan for the fall in how to live out our mission in holistically caring for the youth and families of the Millwood and West Valley community. We won’t be able to do our regular after-school programming, but I look forward to seeing how we can continue to serve these families involved in our programs as well as others.

We have been looking into hiring someone who would run our HUB360 program and help train and equip all the mentors and leaders in our programs. Because of the virtual learning, we have decided to hold off on that hire until the new year or at least until we can meet in person.  Because we haven’t had as many students and families involved in the HUB360 program, we are pausing that program for the fall, and will pick it up again when we meet in person.

I am so thankful for the support Millwood Impact has received and I will continue to update as soon as I know more about what this fall looks like.  People like Connie Smith who sold some real estate and chose to support Millwood Impact, as well as Jeri from the State Farm Agency here in Millwood along with so many other individuals… Thank you for your support!

Attached are some photos from this summer… This includes the 800 food packs we received bought from 2nd Harvest from the Innovia grant to cover the Bite2Go program for this summer, some pics from our food distributions, and lastly, there are a couple pictures of what is becoming my office in Millwood. I will share more info on that once I get that fully up and going.
